Arjun Kapoor says “I fail in everyone’s eyes; I have an unfair judgement against me”
Arjuna Kapoor recently spilled the beans about his personal and professional bouts in the last few years on Raj Shamani’s podcast. Here is what he had to say.
Arjun Kapoor has opened up on the negativity that he has experienced throughout his career, dating to when he entered the industry in 2012 with Ishaqzaade. On Raj Shamani’s podcast, Figuring Out, Arjun spoke about the struggles and criticisms he faced, claiming that ‘people wanted him to fail’.
Arjun Kapoor about Negativity in Life
In response to the question about the immense pressure of starring in Singham Again with the likes of Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, he quipped: “I felt very happy when Rohit sir told me that people are now talking about me and recognising my ownership of the film. It was a gracious moment because for long these people would want me to fall. I mean by people slightly critical, clickbaity, trolling kinds. They thought that I would be an easy target.”
Arjun insisted that there were several reactions based on a lot of things, like his ‘surname, personal life’ and that ‘some of his films’ didn’t do so much well at the box office. Thus, the impression was that he didn’t want to work, didn’t care about his work, wasn’t interested in improving, and didn’t deserve to be an actor. The condition was further worsened by the physical struggles I had during a better part of my career that were due to health issues I’ve only recently started talking about. I understood how this narrative could easily become the darts people had against me.
The actor even shared on a podcast that after a rather strong negative review for Kuttey, he felt personally attacked. “But I don’t respect personal attacks,” said the actor on this.
Arjun spills the beans on means to gain Validation
Arjun talked about being positive and loving someone truly. He said, “I have waited a long time patiently and respectfully for love and appreciation. I think it was just the love through which my debut was hit. Somewhere, I wanted to recapture that feeling. One day at a time. Whether it is in interviews or just completely different people who call me by the name of the character; you want to feel validated. So I’m really enjoying this phase. It’s a positivity, an energy, excitement, and real love. Work now hard for the next opportunities and choose the opportunities wisely.”
It has been years of struggle for Arjun Kapoor
The actor confessed that people want him to be their cheerleader. There are and have been those that believe that love out there was for him. Such people want to cheer for him wanting to support him. I’m talking about the paying audience at this point, like the industry and the media. So perhaps that upsurge turns to good and evil winning out over those emotions. Really, in the end, there are actually good people and goodness in this world back you. The last couple of years or the last over five years, basically, have not been very easy for me,” he added.
Fresh Projects of Arjun Kapoor
Arjun has been going through quite a hellish spell over the last few years. Films such as Sardar Ka Grandson and Bhoot Police in the year 2021, Ek Villain Returns in the year 2022 and then again Kuttey and The Lady Killer in 2023 found a fairly lukewarm reception when released. Bringing out a sort of comeback was when Arjun dabbled in his first evil role as Danger Lanka in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again this year.
