Azaad Movie Review: Rasha Thadani and Aaman Devgan’s Promising Start in a Period Drama

Azaad

New direction arrives by way of Abhishek Kapoor’s new film Azaad with two star kids coming together: Rasha Thadani, daughter of Raveena Tandon and Anil Thadani and nephew is Aaman Devgan of Ajay Devgn. Set against the backdrop of pre-Independent India, this movie tries to tell a tale of love, rivalry, and redemption with a majestic black horse being the central focus.

However, instead of galloping towards greatness, the story stumbles down; it’s just a sluggish screenplay with utter predictability attached to the tropes used. However, instead of galloping to greatness, the narrative stumbles, hindered by a sluggish screenplay and predictable tropes.

The Plot That tries too hard

 Azaad

The movie is about Govind (Aaman Devgan), who, fascinated by the horse of the dacoit Vikram Singh (Ajay Devgn) named Azaad, takes a rival stance against Janaki (Rasha Thadani), a daughter of the wealthy landlord.

A parallel sub-plot on Tej Bahadur, the brother of Janaki (Mohit Malik), and Kesar (Diana Penty) feels half-baked. Its pace fails to keep up with its ambitions as well as its screenplay, leaving the viewer wanting more from it.

Debutants in the Limelight: Mixed Bag

 Azaad

Rasha Thadani and Aaman Devgan present a promising, but definitely raw performance. Rasha has an aura of strong presence on screen but breaks down at dramatic moments, whereas Aaman excels at all action-oriented moments but has nowhere to go on the dramatic scenes. Long way to go, but undeniable promise. Mohit Malik-the television veteran-debuts beautifully on the silver screen whereas Diana Penty’s underwritten character leaves space for little influence. Ajay Devgn appears to be cruising on autopilot in whatever little he essays.

Azaad: It is the star of the entire film

Ironically, though, the biggest star of Azaad seems to be more in its animal lead-the human cast seems forgotten. It’s a film about the scenes showcasing the titular character’s elegance, loyalty, or at times- even grandiose -expanse in how they reflect true emotions- though rarely coming forth from such narrative lines in any cinematic output except here.

Dilemma for a Great Film Director

 Azaad

Abhishek Kapoor, whose films like Rock On!! and Kedarnath worked well in the past, seems to go off tangent with Azaad. It has too long a drawn-out feel that tests your patience.

Story contributed by Ritesh Shah and Suresh Nair are not original. Not even one that would go along with Kapoor’s signature style of impactful narration.

Music That Does Not Fly

Amit Trivedi, known for soulful tracks, has really disappointed with Azaad. While Uui Amma gained attention because it was widely reviled, there is not much to be taken from the album. In such a period setting of the movie, it had the potential to boost the movie story, but instead, the film sinks into misery.

Verdict: Missed Chance

Azaad is a film that promised much in the way of a period drama with great talent, an interesting setting, and a beautiful horse at the center. The slow pace, hackneyed storytelling, and underwhelming music make this a forgettable experience. However, the promise shown by debutants is the only redeeming feature of the movie, which fails to leave an impact overall.

If you’re a fan of period dramas or curious about Rasha Thadani and Aaman Devgan’s debut, Azaad might be worth a watch. But be warned: this journey feels as long and slow as its storytelling.

Why Azaad Misses the Mark

In a year where audiences are spoilt for choice with high-octane narratives and gripping storytelling, Azaad struggles to find its footing. It’s a tale of untapped potential and a stark reminder that even a stellar horse cannot carry a sluggish story across the finish line.
