Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency Film as the One that tells all Hidden Histories

The much awaited film Emergency has had its trailer released by actor Kangana Ranaut. On Monday, Kangana posted the trailer of less than two minutes on Twitter. The video has also been shared on the YouTube channel of Zee Studio.

Kangana, part played to play the role of erstwhile prime minister Indira Gandhi in the film, saying to the president “I am the cabinet”. Anupam Kher plays the role of Jayaprakash Narayan-writing a letter from prison to her. The industrious portrayal of Shreyas Talpade as the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

There are portrayals where Kangana essays the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the character has even said in the assembly that the war can be the only means of accepting the truth. She goes against all other leaders as the one who takes the final step in making a decision. Milind Soman, as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, asks her whether she indeed wishes to declare war. She simply glances at him, conveying the message that yes, she does want a war.

It is then that the nation shakes with violence, bloodshed, and turmoil, as Kangana’s Indira chooses to proclaim an Emergency. Her voice resounds at the end of the video: ‘Indira is India’. She has very powerfully described her portraying the former PM as having fought against everyone for the cause to impose her decision.

Kangana tweeted while sharing the video on X: “1975, Emergency – A Defining chapter in Indian History. Indira: India’s most powerful woman. Her ambition transformed the nation, but her #EMERGENCY plunged it into chaos.”

Kangana was captured by the camera outside the temple premises, barefoot. The star wrote, “Aaj datiya mein devi ke darshan kiye (In Datia today, for Goddess’ glimpse).” The next photo showed Kangana with the police officials at the temple premises. She was looking down and smiling. There was a book held in her hands too.

In another snap, Kangana was seen performing puja while sitting within temple premises. “This is such a holy place where in the age of Mahabharat, Ahwatthama had set up a divine shiv ling, which we also saw. Om Namah Shivay,” she wrote

Kangana went for a yellow saree for the visit and wrapped the shawl around her. She wore a garland. She also reshared a post of Umesh on her Instagram Stories. The original post had Kangana and Umesh inside the temple.

All About movie- Emergency

Kangana has penned, directed, and co-produced this political drama. It will be in theaters from January 17. Emergency literally mirrors the state of an emergency turned into a political weapon by the late Prime Minister for a period of about 21 months starting from 1975 until 1977 and what happened thereafter.

Also appearing in the film are Mahima Chaudhry as Pupul Jayakar, Ashok Chhabra as Morarji Desai, Vishak Nair as Sanjay Gandhi, and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram. The film had previously announced a release date of September 6, 2024, but was delayed due to not getting clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification before that date.
