‘I was Living my Dream’:The Bright-Eyed and Ambitious Madhuri Dixit reflects on leaving her peak behind to marry Dr. Shriram Nene
Madhuri Dixit candidly recalled the time she took a hiatus from acting after marrying American-based doctor Shriram Nene. Here’s what she said.
Madhuri Dixit is basking in the success of her latest release, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The actor has had a varied, decades-long career, even though she had shocked many fans back in the late 90s when she decided to quit acting at the peak of her career to get married. In a new interview with Galatta India, Madhuri revealed that she was very happy with her decision to marry Dr Shriram Nene and settle abroad.
What Madhuri says
I was very happy because for me, paraphernalia was not very important to me, I loved what I do. I love acting, dancing, and everything to do with my profession. Anything else is just bonus like people considering you as a star. But I haven’t ever felt that way about me”, said Madhuri during the chat. For me, this never came like, “Oh my god, I am away from the public eye. I am getting married at the height of my career.” That was not on my list ever.

‘I just thought I have met the right person for me’
She continued saying, “I just thought I have met the right person for me. This is the man I want to marry and I am going to get married to this guy because everybody dreams for themselves. For me, it was like having a house, a husband, having family, and kids. I love kids. So, having kids was big part of that dream.”. And when people say, ‘Oh, you were away, and did you miss?
‘, I am like, ‘No, I didn’t miss because I was living my dream.” Madhuri married Shriram, a doctor, in 1999. She quit her acting career and left for the US where she lives now for over a decade. The couple’s first son Arin was born in 2003, and their second child Ryan was born in 2005. She returned to the work with Aaja Nachle in 2007.
Madhuri dixit what spoke
During the chat, Madhuri spoke about vanity vans, saying, “It’s such a comfort you know, to have a vanity van finally. I remember we never had them. We used to go in those Ambassador cars to Ooty to shoot, in the jungles and everywhere. We didn’t have vanity vans. Not once.
She continued, “We used to sit in the car if it started raining—you know, wait for the rain to subside. And if it was sunny, we’d sit outside. Everyone used to sit outside. So, having a vanity van now gives you privacy, you know, and a little respect for whatever you are doing. It gives you that.”
