Bollywood’s family classic Hum Saath-Saath Hain, directed by Sooraj Barjatya, is one of the iconic family value portrays in Hindi cinema. Launched in 1999, the movie boasted Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Mohnish Bahl, Karisma Kapoor, Sonali Bendre, Tabu, and Neelam Kothari. Though the film won hearts for its touching plot, memorable songs, and deep-rooted sense of togetherness, not much is known about the lighter moments shared by the cast during the making of the movie. Mahesh Thakur, Neelam Kothari’s on-screen husband, recently shared a funny anecdote from the sets that highlighted friendly banter among stars and a hilarious ragging incident.

Mahesh Thakur Chats Up About Life on “ABCD” Set

During his talk with Radio Nasha, Mahesh Thakur reminisced about his experience filming the song “ABCD” from Hum Saath-Saath Hain. Although it was a well-known catchy melody and merry dance steps of the song, it did not come easy all the time in the shoot. Mahesh, not so much known as a dancer, revealed his problem with some of the dance steps in “ABCD”. The shoot was inside a bus which started moving while they danced, creating an unexpected challenge.

Mahesh has a funny recollection of losing his step during the shot and, in a rather unfortunate-yet-humorous turn of events, falling onto Neelam. The mistake was unintentional, but it did nudge Neelam irascible for that one moment when she reacted to the unexpected break. However, what happened later and afterwards added a flavor of fun to the whole situation and eased the vibes on the sets .

Jokes from Salman, Saif, and Tabu Ease the Mood.

After Mahesh’s slip-up, Neelam’s co-stars Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Tabu took advantage of the situation to teasingly rag her around the incident. “He didn’t fall for you like this!” they laughed. As Mahesh narrates, the three couldn’t help but poke fun at the unplanned fall, teasing Neelam with, “If he falls for you, he isn’t going to fall for you like this!” Their jokes and witty remarks not only diffused the tension but also made an uncomfortable moment a memory that brought everyone closer.

Although it was a light-hearted comment, Neelam did not take much offense and soon started laughing about the incident. Mahesh says, “This incident helped the actors to bond more with each other which resulted in good on-screen chemistry and created an informal atmosphere at work. This fraternity worked to make Hum Saath-Saath Hain a memorable project for both the artists and audience.

Friendship And Memories Over working
Though all the ragging was done in good humor, Mahesh maintains that the cast was very close while making the film. The incident had made them overcome all initial inhibitions, and they settled into comfortable places with each other. The subject of the movie like family and unity seemed to play behind the screens also as well, with every actor playing his part at creating an amicable and conducive atmosphere. This proximity ultimately translated onto screen as the actors gave some of their best performances.

Mahesh Thakur has said that working on Hum Saath-Saath Hain was not just a job but the start of friendships that would last for a lifetime. The roll call in the film was a veritable Who’s Who of ‘those’ types, each bringing an individual personality to the screen so that fun and zest on the sets carried over into an experience that each one of these actors recalls with relish.

A Song That Became Iconic

The popular musical mishap happened in the song “ABCD.” The cast boasted a few superstars: Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Mohnish Bahl, Sonali Bendre, and Tabu. This song was sung by all the legends of Bollywood: Udit Narayan, Hariharan, Hema Sardesai, and Shankar Mahadevan. “ABCD” is a great favorite with a bouncy rhythm and some catchy lyrics that tell us about the concept of family fun and bonding.

As one of the lead players of the film, Karisma Kapoor was seen as part of a series of visions within the song. Every actor’s appearance made the song so romantic that it has become synonymous with the happy, loving, and joyous aspect of Hum Saath-Saath Hain. The movie’s theme has been imprinted in the hearts of the viewers that includes family values, teamwork, and togetherness, making it a true Bollywood classic which will remain through time.

Neelam’s Recent Ventures:
Although Neelam Kothari has been quite less active in films for some time, she has recently returned into the spotlight with the third season of Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, produced by Karan Johar, along with her close friends Maheep Kapoor, Seema Sajdeh, and Bhavana Pandey while sharing her lives being Bollywood stars’ wives. It also features Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, Shalini Passi, and Kalyani Saha Chawla in the latest season of the show which makes for an exciting peek into the glamorous yet challenging lives of Bollywood’s famous wives.

Neelam may have evolved from Bollywood Bollywood to reality-reality television, but her contributions to the Bollywood universe remain very influential to this day. And of all her films, it is Hum Saath-Saath Hain, which remains one of the most memorable ones for me. The anecdote narrated by Mahesh Thakur brings into mind memories that lighten up the music and dialogues of a light-hearted film that can be nostalgic for the cast as well as the viewers.

The experience that the sets of Hum Saath-Saath Hain provide, narrated by Mahesh Thakur, is a testimony to the playful and supportive atmosphere that cast members shared. Ragged by Salman, Saif, and Tabu, the ragging scene could quite easily have been a moment of comic relief; however it helped bond the entire cast together so that performances for generations to come would be able to feel its pulse. The very light-hearted anecdote again speaks of the light-hearted, fun-loving, family-oriented spirits of Hum Saath-Saath Hain-the reasons why it remains a favorite for the audience from the golden age of Bollywood.
