Ananya Panday Opens Up About Overcoming School Bullying And Mental Health Struggles

It had been a long time, and Ananya Panday’s massive fan following has all existed since projects like Call Me Bae and CTRL. She recently revealed in an interview with the painful side of life and how she was bullied so consistently at school that the experience left her with mental trauma in immense damage.

The Dark Side of School Bullying-Emotional Toll

Ananya candidly discusses the tough moments she faced as a young girl, before stepping into the limelight. According to the actress, school can be a harsh environment, and it was during her school years that she was subjected to cruel comments. “When I was in school, social media had just started. I was called all sorts of things, like hunchback, flat chested, chicken legs. That was in school, we were in our bubble,” she shared.

But what made it even worse during her teenage years was the increase in social media. She further explained that even the littlest comments could be very influential on the internet, affecting how she saw herself. “Now, because of social media, the smallest voice can be amplified,” she said. This experience of ridicule and criticism affected Ananya’s self-confidence, and she admits that its impact is still something she has to deal with. “It still does today. Self-love is a journey, not the destination,” she reflected.

The Impact of Online Trolls: How to Deal with Social Media Negativity

Ananya also shared with us how, as a budding star in Bollywood, the limelight often invites adoration and scathing criticism alike. She remembered that even after entering the film industry, she was targeted by trolls online. She recalled one incident in which a fake Instagram account was created in her name and she was portrayed as someone who did not complete her school. The account claimed that she had lied about her college admissions, and the incident caused Ananya a great deal of distress. “First, I was like, ‘No one is going to believe that.’ But people did believe it,” she confessed.

It has shown her the brutal realities of fame and damages that arise from unfiltered rumours and negative social opinion. The circumstances teach the psychological cost of never-ending judgment of life on social media.

“You never know when you just have some bad days, too,” she continued, in relation to the pressures of the situation, “where you just don’t want to be on social media.”

Seeking Help: Therapy and Mental Health Awareness

Despite the hardships, Ananya is candid about her quest for help for her mental health. She said therapy played a very important role in her healing process. “I have done therapy in the past, I am not as regular now. I could not articulate my emotions. I used to just feel very, very down,” she admitted. She says there is one moment in her life when she found it very hard to express emotions, understanding the full extent to which she had been battered psychologically because of the bullying and trolling she faced.

She indicated that, in most cases, online abuse does not surface quickly. She elaborates that: “You may read something in the moment and you may not realize that it’s affecting you, because you think ‘I am fine right now, I am having a good day, I am in the car, I am busy.’ But weeks later, it could still be there in your subconscious somewhere.”. Over time, these loads became more unmanageable, and that is the reason Ananya had gone for therapy to handle this aspect.

She never made it easy for herself to get on the road to healing, but she credits therapy for having addressed that deeper emotional pain. Today, though not attending therapy as much as she used to, Ananya still believes in the care of mental health and believes in acknowledging one’s struggle. “The thing with mental health and social media is that it piles up,” she noted, emphasizing how silence and ignoring the emotional impact of trolling can be harmful in the long run.
