The Family Welfare Court in Chennai concluded the divorce of Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, ending their 18 years of marriage. This court verdict came after both stated that they could no longer live together. As quoted by NDTV, on 27 November 2024, this court pronounced their official division as a couple.

Announcement of Separation and Official Statement:

On 18 January 2022, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa published a formal statement announcing their separation and said, “18 years of togetherness as friends, a couple, parents, and well-wishers to each other. The journey has been one of growth, understanding, adjusting, and adapting. Today, we stand at a place where our paths separate.” Each released their separated copies on their different social media handles.

In their joint statement, they added, “We have decided to part ways as a couple and take the time to understand ourselves as individuals for the better. Please respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to cope with this change.”

Dhanush and Aishwaryaa were married on November 18, 2004. They had two children: a daughter named Yatra in 2006 and their son Linga in 2010. Throughout the whole marriage period, they led more or less a private life; sometimes just sharing glimpses of family moments at social media.

The divorce was also due to speculations made over a long period in terms of the strained media reports of the couple.

However, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa have tried to remain co-parenting to their children post-divorce.

Divorce Finalization Despite Ongoing Case by Nayanthara Against Dhanush

Dhanush had filed a civil lawsuit against Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan for using the footage of the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix documentary by Nayanthara titled Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. The claim by Dhanush was that the documentary has used behind-the-scene shots from the film without any proper permissions.

Thus, he sent a legal notice to Nayanthara and the streaming platform, Netflix, seeking compensation amounting to Rs. 10 crores. Nayanthara issued an open letter on social media that responded to Dhanush’s actions, which marked a public exchange of dialogue between the two actors in the dispute. The case is still in the court, as the High Court of Madras is waiting for the replies from Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan before proceeding to the next hearing session.

Public Opinion and Industry Response

The news of Dhanush and Aishwaryaa’s divorce has received immense attention from fans, colleagues, and industry peers. Some people have come out to support and understand the situation while others have questioned the timing and motives of the divorce. The fans of both actors have been divided, and the discussions in social media platforms have ranged from empathy to curiosity on their decision to part ways.

Many of Dhanush and Aishwaryaa’s colleagues from the Tamil industry have come out to acknowledge the difficulties both may face after separation, but not one of the industry bodies made any statement on their divorce.

The Larger Picture: Divorce and Celebrities in India

The Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth divorce signifies the stress and struggle of public personalities in India, especially how to maintain relationships in public view. Actors and their families are now facing unprecedented pressure with the rise of social media and increasing public scrutiny that can affect personal choices and relationships.

It also brings into question how celebrities in India see and deal with divorces and whether they can maintain a balance between their personal and professional lives. It raises very relevant questions about privacy, mental health, and public support in tough times.

After their separation with a finalized divorce, Dhanush and Aishwaryaa will concentrate back on their respective careers. Dhanush has had some controversies as he is concerned with Nayanthara over that issue, and Aishwaryaa Dhanush is directing several Tamil cinema movies. Both of them will remain in Tamil cinema but as an individual instead of couples.

As they both traverse through the journey of after-marriage life, fans as well as the film fraternity are to closely observe, hoping their best in life and prosperousness. If their further meeting each other will be done or not, is written but whatever is done with a tag of separation from each other, has now become final and people with mixed reaction are accepting the fact.
