The Return of Rani Mukerji’s ‘Shivani Roy’ from Mardaani in the year 2026
Yash Raj Films Friday declared ‘Mardaani 3’ with Rani Mukerji headlining it. The film is slated to release in theatres in 2026.
Rani Mukerji popularised the supercop Shivan Shivaji Roy and announced the third part of the Mardaani series-Mardaani 3 on Friday. The movie would be produced under Yash Raj Films and will go on the floor in 2025 and released theatrically in 2026. No official date is fixed for the release.
Rani’s Mardaani 3 announcement
On the day that marked the release year of Mardaani 2, the Yash Raj Films made a buzz on social media by sharing their announcement poster of Mardaani 3 on Friday. “The wait is over! #RaniMukerji is back as the fierce Shivani Shivaji Roy in #Mardaani3. In cinemas 2026,” read the caption. As per the poster, this movie was to be produced by Aditya Chopra under the YRF banner and would be directed by Abhiraj Minawala.

On learning of the announcement, Rani said, “I am happy to announce that we will commence shooting for Mardaani 3 in April 2025. It is always special to don a police uniform and play a character that has only given me love. I am proud to portray this feisty cop once again in Mardaani 3 as a tribute to the unsung, brave, self-sacrificing cops who work tirelessly day after day to keep us safe.”

Mardaani 3 is going to be extremely high-octane compared to earlier films. And when we embarked on Mardaani 3, it was with the thought that we might find a script that resonates with the audience’s sensibilities, taking the entire Mardaani viewing experience higher,” she added. Mardaani is a very loved franchise and thus we have a certain responsibility to deliver to the expectation that people have. We will best be able to live up to this, and Mardaani 3 is dark, deadly and brutal. So, I’m intrigued to find out what the reaction of the people will be towards our film. I hope they show this film with the same love they’ve given it always.
Aayush Gupta, who is one of the renowned screenwriters working for The Railway Men, has written the script of Mardaani 3. This film will have as its director Abhiraj Minawala, who has also been nurtured by YRF. In the past, he has assisted the top YRF honcho in films such as Band Baaja Baarat, Sultan, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and Tiger 3. Abhiraj is currently serving as the associate director for War 2.
Head-presented before the parliament of Australia by actor Rani Mukerji and director Karan Johar, to commemorate the Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM). The actor, being there, shared that she is “proud” to represent India, and is “manifesting” the films with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman opposite her and Shah Rukh Khan.
Rani expressed: “I am proud to represent the Indian entertainment industry in the Parliament house of Australia with my beloved friend Karan (Johar), just to speak to the rich heritage of cinema that we can offer. This is truly a milestone moment in India and Australia’s cultural ties.”
About Mardaani
The Mardaani franchise began with the same name as it was in the film released in 2014. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar, Mardaani has been a huge box office hit; it collected ₹60 crore at the box office. Mardaani 2, released in 2019, earned ₹67 crore and was directed by Gopi Puthran. Both movies featured Rani playing the role of a tough-as-nails cop handling cases of violence against women.
