Aamir narrated that Salman’s close friendship with Puneet Issar had played an important role in getting the title. Without any further hesitation, Salman called up Puneet and asked him to get the title for Aamir’s film.
Aamir remembered fondly, “Salman called Puneet and said, ‘Unko title chahiye,’ though he was doing Sultan then. People thought we were competing because of the same wrestling subject matter. But that wasn’t the case. Salman really helped us out.
Salman’s involvement seemed to sway Puneet Issar enough, who, as he admitted that he was in no hurry to use the title and that Aamir’s team is welcome to use it instead.
Such gestures not only debunked all the rumors of a feud but also showed the respect, friendship, and love of two big stars. Aamir thanked Salman, saying such gestures are only a sign of solidarity that prevails in the Indian film industry.
Both the movies became huge successes. Salman Khan’s Sultan by Ali Abbas Zafar was a box office bonanza, which had elements of romance, drama, and sports woven into one story.
