Superhit horror comedy franchise Bhool Bhulaiyaa starred Akshay Kumar in the lead role, which hit the screens back in 2007.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa has turned out to be a super successful franchise, more so after the second and third in the last four years, including Kartik Aaryan. But the foundation goes way back with the first instalment that released in 2007 under Priyadarshan’s direction and Akshay Kumar as the lead ghostbuster. In a new interview with Pinkvilla, Akshay reveals why he wasn’t a part of the sequel and the threequel.

During the fan interaction segment, one audience member told Akshay while he’s a huge fan of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise, he didn’t watch the second and third parts because Akshay wasn’t a part of them.
He inquired of Akshay, “Why he did not do those movies”. Akshay said, “Wah wah Beta mujhe nikaal dia tha (I was removed). That’s it”.

The same fan also asked Akshay why he cut down on doing comedies in the last 10 years. Akshay replied in Hindi, “That’s true. I’ve done less comedies.”.
I have done many social films whether it is Sarfira (2024), Airlift (2016), Rustom (2016), Padman (2018), and Toilet (Ek Prem Katha, 2017). Because I wanted to do it. I had done many comedies earlier. Every human being has a mindset at a certain time, what he wants to do. So I wanted to do that. But now, I’ve signed about 2-3 comedies which I’m filing, like Bhooth Bangla, Welcome (to the Jungle), and Housefull (5).”

About the Bhool Bhulaiyaa Franchise

The Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise, produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series, kicked off with the 2007 film, also starring Vidya Balan as the witch Manjulika. The second part, released in 2022, was helmed by Anees Bazmee.
The new star cast consisted of Kartik Aaryan as the ghostbuster Rooh Baba, Kiara Advani, and Tabu as the twin witches Manjulika and Anjulika. Kartuk reprised his role in the threequel that was released last year. So did Vidya Balan from the first part. Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri joined the action.

Meanwhile, Akshay has teamed up with Priyadarshan once again for the horror comedy Bhooth Bangla, which will hit the silver screen next year.

About Akshay’s New Project

Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, Sky Force tells the gripping story of India’s retaliatory strike on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase during the 1965 Indo-Pakistani air war. Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan are also a part of the film. Sky Force will be out in theatres on January 24.

In a photo, Akshay and Veer Pahariya posed with the dignitaries. For the screening, Akshay sat next to the defence minister. Apart from Rajnath Singh, CDS Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh, Navy Chief Dinesh K Tripathi, and officers from the armed forces also watched the film.

Recently, Veer, in an interview with ANI, expressed his wish that his movie inspires the next generation just like Hrithik Roshan-starrer Lakshya movie did years ago.

“Working on my first film, Sky Force, was rather overwhelming. It is a huge opportunity and a responsibility for me to play a real-life hero, squadron leader Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya, who was one of the heroes of the 1965 India-Pakistan war, which we won against overwhelming odds.this story needs to be told for the future generations to get inspired by what our heroes of our country have done for our freedom,” Veer said.
