Indian pharmaceutical tycoon Adar Poonawalla has invested $119 million into one of Bollywood’s largest production houses, boosting a film industry that has shrunk from lacklustre audience interest.

Prolific filmmaker and chat show host Karan Johar will retain the balance of the stake and serve as executive chairman. His father started the production company in the 1970s.

ICYDK, it’s the first venture of Dharma Productions since business tycoon Adar Poonawalla bought a 50% stake in Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment-all together referred to as Dharma.
