Gadar 2 Director Anil Sharma Unveils Shocking Conflicts with Ameesha Patel

Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel as leads, brought forth old memories with new vigor at the forefront. However, much off-screen controversy was witnessed even before the movie’s release, where director Anil Sharma was at loggerheads with Ameesha Patel. Recently, the director shared his experience regarding the challenges faced during the shoot and how Ameesha was reluctant to play the role of mother-in-law.

Ameesha Patel’s Reservation

Ameesha Patel, at least, was very restless that her character, Sakina in Gadar 2, had changed significantly. Talking to Siddharth Kannan, Anil Sharma confessed that she was unwilling to accept the character of a mother-in-law to her on-screen son’s wife. According to Sharma, that was the fallout of the impression about her on-screen image that Ameesha harbored.

Gadar 2 ki kahani mein unko utni jagah nahi mil payi jo Gadar 1 mein mili. Woh umaar aur samaye ko samaj nahi paayi. Jab aap jeete ki maa hai toh uske bahu ki saas bhi banna padega na,” Sharma said. (She couldn’t accept the natural progression of her character’s age. When you’ve played Jeete’s mother, it’s inevitable to also play a mother-in-law.)

Sharma pointed out how other film legends, such as Nargis Dutt, took on complex characters so effortlessly without any consideration of age. He gave an example of Nargis’ performance in Mother India: “Nargis bhi toh bani thi mother India mein mother jab woh young thi.” (Nargis also played a mother in Mother India when she was quite young.)

According to the director, Ameesha was hesitant initially because of all the branding and image up-keep pressures prevailing in this world today. “In today’s world, actors feel compelled to avoid roles that might influence their public perception. That could have been an external influence,” he said. But Sharma clarified that those problems were sorted over time and there was no issue as they moved forward with the film.

Despite the hiccups, Sharma reiterated his respect for Ameesha Patel. “She will always be Sakina from Gadar 1 for me. There is no ill will between us,” he affirmed.

Tension Over Comments About Utkarsh Sharma

This wasn’t the end of the conflict. It was heard that Ameesha Patel had said something about Anil Sharma’s son, Utkarsh Sharma, who had appeared as her on-screen son, Jeete, in both the movies. Answering the rumors, Anil Sharma stated that he was pained but said he forgot all this. “Sometimes it felt cheap, but I think she didn’t mean any malice.”.

On the other hand, Utkarsh Sharma was more mature when dealing with it. “He took the criticism like a pro. He says it is a part of the industry and he is learning from it. He’s become stronger and more prepared for the challenges of showbiz,” said director Anil Sharma.

Gadar 2 Legacy

Despite the controversies off-screen, Gadar 2 was one of the biggest grossers in the Bollywood circuit this year. The movie, with Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, and Simrat Kaur, did appeal to the audience as it presented nostalgia with a thrilling narrative. Fans were eager to see the love story between Sakina and Tara Singh, set against the family dynamics and the intense drama.

An example in itself is the revelation of the complexities of filmmaking and the personal and professional challenges arising during such high-stakes projects by Anil Sharma. As he would say, “These conflicts are part of the journey. What matters is how we overcome them and deliver a film that resonates with the audience.”.

For fans, Amisha Patel will be Sakina, whatever be the behind-the-scenes story. Meanwhile, the huge success of Gadar 2 is a testimony to the team effort and timelessness of the Tara-Sakina saga.
