Shocking! Kiran Rao Left in Tears on Laapataa Ladies Set by Nitanshi Goel’s Unstoppable Performance
In a rare moment of emotional intensity during filming for Laapataa Ladies, acclaimed director Kiran Rao and the crew themselves were brought to tears by a powerful extempore performance by bright young star Nitanshi Goel. The actress played Phool Kumari in the film, and how an unplanned scene that became one of the most memorable spots in her career and on the film’s production in a recent interview.
Nitanshi’s Unforgettable Performance
It was, Laapataa Ladies, directed by Aamir Khan, which became a tsunami film for India as an official entry for the 97th Academy Awards under the Best International Feature Film category. Nitanshi Goel charmed one and all with her innocence as Phool Kumari in this film, but there was one scene inside the public toilet at the railway station that was emotionally carved in everyone’s minds on the project.
Nitanshi tells the Free Press Journal it was an improvisation completely while talking to them. She was rehearsing the scene and felt that the vulnerability of Phool demanded a kind of emotional breakdown. Rao told her not to overplay but play the scene genuinely, he says.
The outcome was a heart-wrenching performance that made the entire crew clap and wipe away tears. This emotional scene gave Nitanshi the label of “one-take artist” by Kiran Rao, a term that highlights her outstanding talent and commitment to her craft.
Behind the Scenes: How the Moment Came to Life
Nitanshi describes the train of thought she had before that emotional scene. She was of the opinion that Phool, who faced severe loss and confusion in the entire movie, needed an outlet to let all out. The unplanned and impactful break took place in the public toilet of the railway station.
“It was not in the script, but I felt Phool’s emotions justified this outburst,” says Nitanshi. “Kiran ma’am trusted me completely, and that gave me the confidence to go all in. Seeing everyone moved after the take was the most rewarding moment for me.”
This depth of emotion Nitanshi brought to the scene spoke volumes of her acting prowess and also helped make the movie so powerful in its narrative.
Nitanshi Goel: The Great Survivor
Nitanshi Goel was born on June 12, 2007, in Delhi. She hasn’t taken much time to rise in the movie world. Even before debuting on-screen, she rose to fame with performances in popular TV shows like Thapki Pyaar Ki, Peshwa Bajirao, and Inside Edge 2.
Outside acting, Nitanshi is an artiste herself with training in Kathak dancing and singing. She started training at a young age with her parents and brothers, Nitin and Rashi Goel, showing great interest in doing so. Hard work combined with natural talent has created her one of the great new young stars in cinema in India. Unsuccessful Outcome at Oscars:
While the other, Laapataa Ladies, received accolades as it managed to procure for India an official entry in the 2025 Oscars but failed to qualify themselves for best international feature films, this was devastating to its fans and trade enthusiasts as most of them did perceive a great potential in itself that would have allowed it to shine beyond boundaries.
All said and done, the film remains an exemplar success of Indian films, although only Nitanshi Goel’s character stands out as a talent and marks a legacy in its posterity.
Undeniably, her role in Laapataa Ladies has made Nitanshi Goel a bold and skilful actress. She makes an entire set cry from an impromptu scene, and that surely is a testimony of her aptitude and emotional quotient as well. So, so far, Nitanshi is sure to become another household name in Bollywood soon.
Such an impact-packed début has made the young actress set the bar rather high for her future projects, and fans are looking forward to seeing what is in store next from this up-and-coming star.
