About the LA Wildfires

The LA wildfires have destroyed thousands of homes, and 24 people have died as a result of the fires. More are reported missing, and officials expect that number to increase.
On Wednesday, electric utility executive said in the Los Angeles Times that the winds that were blowing at the time of the Eaton fire, which began in Altadena on January 7, had not attained the intensity needed for de-energizing a significant electrical transmission line, which is still being investigated as a possible source of the fire.
Southern California Edison chief executive, Steven Powell, on the other hand, said the company did not de-energize a major electrical transmission line. That is because the winds in Eaton Canyon did not get to the range of 60 to 80 mph, which usually warrants such action. Powell indicated that Edison had been carefully monitoring weather conditions that day.
The revealed the flames starting down below a transmission tower. Nevertheless, according to the Times, Powell rejected this information that Edison picked a nice time to have no reports for anything amiss in a 12-hour window before the fire strikes.
“My heart sank,” he told the Times as he acknowledged what terrible images they were from residents who lived nearby. “Any mind that would see that, in anybody’s nature, would go to suspect that it has something to do with Edison electrical equipment.”
