Shocking Reason Why Rohit Shetty Left Out Ranveer-Deepika Scenes in Singham Again

The Rohit Shetty-directed Singham Again had people excited to witness the on-screen chemistry of Bollywood’s favourite power couple, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. However, the much-awaited “DeepVeer” moment never made it to the screens. Recently, in an exclusive conversation with News18, director Rohit Shetty spoke about the reasons behind his decision of keeping the characters of Ranveer and Deepika separate in the cop film.

Shetty explained that though he did consider a scene where the two characters might exchange some playful banter, he ultimately did not do it. The director did not want to expose any potential discomfort or misunderstanding that may arise from the portrayal of romance between Ranveer’s character and Deepika’s character in Singham Again, a film with heavy religious and cultural themes. “We did all this so that no one got hurt for even a second,” Shetty shared.

The values the character in the movie can borrow from Hindu mythology, Lord Hanuman, is that he always speaks to his heart and is selfless. Shetty thought that bringing in a romantic dimension between Ranveer and Deepika would have been contradictory as such themes were not present between Hanuman and Sita. He further explained, “Since Ranveer was a reflection of Hanuman ji’s character, it could have gone really wrong.”.

He was well aware that audiences would grasp the dynamic of the relationship, and hence he decided cautiously. The director well understood that one needs to be cautious while making films on religious themes, especially in Indian cinema as the audience is very sensitive towards the portrayal of the great characters.

Challenges Involved in Inclusion of Ramayan Themes

It was quite a challenging job for Rohit Shetty to include themes from Ramayan in Singham Again. That brought in a lot of challenge for Shetty and his team, as they knew the responsibility and sensitivity required to pay homage to the sentiments associated with the Ramayan. The director admitted that first of all comes the challenge to ensure the religiously pleasant observances in the movie are correctly handled. He said that he was more worried about the reactions that people might have about some interpretations in the film rather than the box office numbers.

Using aspects of the Ramayan was a risk factor,” Shetty noted, citing apprehensions his team had regarding the take on Ramayan and how audiences would react to it. The filmmaker knew one small misstep would end up in backlash, something he didn’t want. He wanted to pay homage to the values of the characters in Ramayan and continue what everyone in the cop universe loves: high action, thrilling entertainment.

Conscious Decision Not To Spoil Feelings

And by stopping Deepika and Ranveer from living together, Shetty didn’t want to sully the sanctum of Ranveer’s character. Be it what it is, fans wouldn’t be witnessing the ‘DeepVeer’ magic, but this helped Shetty in keeping the cultural and religious elements he wanted to propagate through Singham Again. He said that it is a conscious choice to ensure that the narrative fits into what the characters believe, especially with Ranveer since he’s the character who only represents Hanuman.

Shetty went on to explain that despite sharing some light moments with Akshay Kumar’s character in the film, he did not wish to go light and frivolous with Deepika’s character. Shetty and his team were cautious, rather safe, never to take liberties with the themes they were dealing with. “We knew clearly what we could depict and say on screen,” he said.

Reception and Relief by Audience

The cultural themes of Ramayan-inspired worried Shetty, as he said it was the point of apprehension where the team dreaded reactions from the audience in case something went wrong with the portrayal. However the director was relieved because their cautious approach seemed to make way with the viewers. In an interview Shetty said, “Taking up things tactfully and handling it, sincerely to say, we avoided controversy and the audiences not got misinterpreted.””.

With good choice-making in the production, Rohit Shetty and team were able to present a storyline that seemed to have it both ways: a cinematic film with huge stakes, yet a culturally sensitive feature. Ultimately, Shetty’s attitude did not ensure the strength of the religious references but managed to create a narrative where respect lay in the depth and might of the Ramayan.

Singham Again: A Special Addition to the Universe of Shetty’s Cop

Enough Said Singham Again * is well received and goes a long way toward becoming a film that takes from the heart-thumping action, impactful drama, and cultural depth. The film continues Shetty’s famous cop universe that brought along an ensemble cast with some of Bollywood’s favorite stars in integral roles. Although the theme added a layer of complexity, Shetty’s commitment to honoring the sentiments behind it have finally paid off, providing a film that audiences can enjoy without forsaking the values of their culture.

While the romantic subplot Deepika and Ranveer fans were hoping for might have been disappointing, respect and understanding towards Shetty’s choice of focusing on the integrity of the storyline and what values the characters walk away from has been near-unanimous. The film with Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and other larger-than-life Bollywood stars shows Shetty is committed to making a film which should be both entertaining and meaningful.

The Balance between Storytelling and Sensitivity

In the case of Singham Again, Rohit Shetty’s style proved to be a good example for how filmmakers can take up audience expectations and, at the same time, keep up cultural respect. With regard to the storyline respecting religious values, he was quite mature in his understanding that the responsibility that came along with representing cultural themes cannot be overlooked. This was very responsible and kept the film intact with its themes; this, at the same time, was a reflection of the seriousness that Shetty had toward viewers’ sentiments.

With Singham Again gaining pace, Shetty reminds everyone that storytelling needs to be gripping and connect to viewers while not disrespecting the roots. The world of movies under constant scrutiny needs instances like Shetty’s choices that prove him a true craftsman and respects the value of the fact their characters represent.
