Vikrant Massey, who is seen in The Sabarmati Report, upcoming, said he’s received threats ahead of the film based on the 2002 Godhra Riots.

The Sabarmati Report, based on the Godhra Riots of 2002, will feature Vikrant Massey next. Speaking on Subhankar Mishra’s Podcast, Vikrant explained the life he and his family live hugely secularly. Vikrant’s parents were part of an interfaith marriage: his father is Christian, while his mother belongs to Sikhism. His brother Moeen has converted to Islam. He’s married to Sheetal Thakur, who is a Hindu.

Here is the Full Podcast of Subhankar Mishra with Vikrant Massey:

Vikrant Massey said

“My brother does Laxmi puja on the occasion of Diwali. His conversion is his personal choice. But we celebrate Diwali and Holi together here. On the occasion of Eid, we celebrate it at his place, having biryani. Today, that fulcrum is absent (in society),” Vikrant said.

“My father has been to Vaishno Devi temple (located in Katra, Jammu and Kashmir) six times.”. He is a Christian and goes to church twice a week even today. That’s the thing about India, you see. You find Christians whose name is Rahul, Rohit etc. And we go to gurudwaras and many Hindus go to Ajmer Sharif Dargah located in Rajasthan. That’s our Hindustan. So, what’s the big deal? There’s a temple in my house. My son’s name is Vardaan. That’s what forms the fabric of our country, Vikrant added.

The Story Behind the Role: Sabarmati

He is a Hindi journalist with ambitions and the desire to make a name for himself in the media world. The film is rooted in the tragic events that surrounded the Sabarmati Express incident on February 27, 2002. Directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Vikir Films, the story digs deep into the socio-political influence the event had on India and tells the story of a journalist who uncovers unseen truths. Massey’s character suffers in a complex moral storyline for he suffers both in his professional work and with substance abuse once the tragedy strikes.

About The Sabarmati Report

Directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa R Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, Amul V Mohan and Anshul Mohan, The Sabarmati Report boasts of Raashii Khanna and Riddhi Dogra in prominent roles.

At the trailer launch, Vikrant told the media, ” Ji haan aaye hain aur aa rahe hai (Yes, I have been receiving threats).”. But as I said ki hum kalakar hai or kahaniyaan bolte hai (we’re artists and we tell stories). This film is purely based on facts. It is something that I am dealing with or we as a team collectively are dealing with and I think we will deal with it the way it has to be.

Talking about the Sabarmati Report is a superlatively powerful ensemble cast, starring Massey apart from Raashii Khanna, Ridhi Dogra, and Barkha Singh in important roles. The film directed by Dheeraj Sarna and produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ektaa R Kapoor, Amul V. Mohan, and Anshul Mohan promises entertainment along with introspective storytelling. All producers would bank upon a talented cast to bring across an impactful performance of the Godhra incident, which has had many ramifications in the socio-political fabric of India.

Vikrant takes on the role of a journalist in the movie, who probes the facts behind the burning of the Sabarmati Express on February 27, 2002, Godhra, Gujarat. Sabarmati Report will be releasing on November 15th in theatres this Friday
