Weekend Ka Vaar of Bigg Boss 18 got intense as Bollywood superstar Salman Khan went head-to-head with fintech entrepreneur Ashneer Grover. Salman, whose candid nature is quite well known, took on BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover over his past remarks and questioned the hashtag “doglapan” (double standards) he’s facing accusations of.

The term “doglapan,” which was brought to mainstream fame by Ashneer Grover in the reality show Shark Tank India 2021, also forms the title of his book. Salman’s comment has added more flavour to this soap-operatic drama that thrives and loves only such moments.

Salman Questions Ashneer’s Statements

During the altercation, Salman Khan directly spoke to Ashneer Grover, saying, “I have heard you speaking about me. You said, ‘We signed him for this much, signed him for that much,’ and all your figures were wrong. So then, what is with the double standards?” Salman was referring to Ashneer’s comments given in multiple public forums including a 2022 podcast wherein the entrepreneur spoke about signing the actor for BharatPe advertisements.

Ashneer had candidly shared with students at Lovely Professional University how the Salman Khan team had quoted a fee of ₹7.5 crore for a brand collaboration. Grover, laughing, recalled how Salman’s manager had responded to a request to bring down the fee: “Sir, aap bhindi khareedne aaye ho kya? Kitni maandvali karoge?” (Sir, are you here to buy vegetables? How much more will you bargain?).

Salman, however, denied the validity of those statements on the show, claiming that those figures were wrong and asked for the tone Grover had while making those statements in that podcast.

Ashneer Grover Clears the Air on LinkedIn

After the episode, Ashneer Grover posted on LinkedIn to state his side of the story. He made a long post focusing on Salman Khan’s statements but avoiding a negative tone.

“I hope you all enjoyed the Bigg Boss Weekend Ka Vaar! I had great fun, and I am sure the particular episode got very good TRP/viewership,” he began. Grover clarified that he never made any offending comments regarding Salman and reiterated his admiration for the actor as a host and an entrepreneur as well.

Grover also supported his claims, saying: “My deal numbers are always correct (bank/auditor verified).” He reminded that he had met Salman in May 2019 for three hours at JW Marriott Juhu, talking over the brand collaboration.

Grover, on his part, thanked the platform for the chance to be the guest on Bigg Boss and even revealed that he finally got himself clicked with Salman, something he couldn’t do during their first interaction.

“Be Careful About How You Present Yourself”

The argument heated up when Salman revealed that he was unaware of the name “Ashneer Grover” until it was announced on the show. “I just got to know that you are coming here. I did not know your name also. Since I had seen your video, I recognized your face. I think you should be careful about how you present yourself,” Salman advised.

Salman also pointed out the difference in Ashneer’s tone, as his previous attitude on the show was different from his attitude in earlier videos.

Ashneer tried to sugarcoat his position by stating that he might have delivered it by taking a wrong tone in the comments. But Salman was sharper in observing the inconsistency and retorted, “But the way you are talking now, and the video I saw of you, this wasn’t your attitude back then.”

Moment of Resolution

It was an exchange of heated words, but the episode ended on a lighter note when Ashneer Grover finally managed to get clicked with Salman, after being denied that photo opportunity earlier while being called out by him for his “heropanti” (showmanship).

This dramatic-yet ultimately friendly episodic climax has ensured it has kept the otherwise wayward viewers entertained and rife in TRP ratings for this popular reality show.

Conclusion

The Salman Khan-Ashneer Grover clash on Bigg Boss 18 is actually a masterclass in reality TV theatrics. This was more than a chance for the statements he claimed were misrepresented to Salman. To Ashneer, this was a great chance to express himself and demonstrate his quintessential self-confidence.

As this episode proved, reality TV isn’t about the fun times only; sometimes it is a platform for more candid conversations and surprising confrontations. And in this particular case, the clash between Bollywood’s superstar and one of India’s most outspoken entrepreneurs was truly to remember.
