Bollywood’s Superstar Shah Rukh Khan has dubbed the “King of Bollywood” shared experience of losing both parents while he was very young. During an emotional unveiling, he expressed how their early death scarred him and really shaped his career in the film industry.

Loss at Young Age: A Heartbreaking Experience

His father, Mir Taj Mohammed Khan, left him in the ground when Shah Rukh was just 15 years of age. Ten years later, tragedy struck once again as his mother, Lateef Fatima Khan, also died. He shares, “I lost them in a gap of 10 years. It was an equally devastating time for me. At such an age, I did not know how to handle it. I had nowhere to go.”.

The loss of parents left him adrift and vulnerable, open to everything that adult life represented in all its raw form, without the guiding light of his parents over his head. Shah Rukh calls this one of the darkest times in his life though still a turning point that nudged him to create a path for himself.

Finding Strength in Adversity

Still, he sublimated the pain into strength. He came to Mumbai with a promise of acting; he drenched his emotions in the work. “Acting became my therapy,” he said. “Every role I played gave me an outlet to channel my feelings, my frustrations, and my pain.”

He shares: “At times, I wonder how proud they would have been to see what I have achieved. But I also know that their blessings have been my constant companions throughout this journey.”
