Azaad Day 5 Collection: Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani’s Disastrous Debut Crumbles Ahead of Sky Force’s Dominance
While a plethora of patriotic films have made their way into the Bollywood arena, Abhishek Kapoor’s Azaad has been the newest entrant to this category. Despite casting debutantes Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani in lead roles, along with an extended cameo from Ajay Devgn, Azaad hasn’t managed to do much at the box office. The 1920 film had opened to lukewarm responses and continues to struggle on its fifth day in cinemas.
Box Office Performance: A Slow Start and Weak Hold
RSP Movie, Azaad release with thin lines on the first day. Though the movie marks the debut on the big screen for Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, it could not create any kind of hype on the day 5 of the movie. There’s no much growth in the collections.
The movie has hardly any chance of making profits since it is not likely to attract audience appreciation and is competing with some very heavy releases. The action movie by Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya, Sky Force, is scheduled to release on January 24. It seems that there won’t be much room for redemption.
Ajay Devgn Cameo Does Not Save the Movie
Despite the strong presence at the silver screen by Ajay Devgn, Azaad did not reach or capture audiences through the doors of cinema halls. Devgn takes a lead position in the story. For this, everybody was anticipating more crowd. At least, his power failed to uplift that film above slow motion.
Track Record: Abhishek Kapoor: Hits and Misses
Azaad is the comeback film of Abhishek Kapoor after four years, following his 2021 film Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui. Films like Kai Po Che (semi-hit), Kedarnath (average), Fitoor (disaster), and Rock On! (average) have marked Kapoor’s mixed record at the box office.
This is the second film for Kapoor with Ajay Devgn as an actor and he even has a special appearance in his movie Fitoor which was released back in 2016. Unluckily for them, while their earlier product did not perform well among viewers, the Azaad film that recently released to be an anti patriotic and not the ambitious movie like it could be.
The competition is quite tough as it has come from Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency, a film that speaks about a very important chapter in the political history of India. Critics have appreciated Emergency, but Azaad has failed to leave a mark.
As if this was not enough, a much-awaited Sky Force is scheduled for release this Friday, an action film featuring Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya. With anticipation running high due to the buzz surrounding Kumar’s comeback film in Azaad, the latest film is also expected to register a further downward graph on the box office.
Audiences and Critics Response
Azaad‘s mediocre performance can be attributed to an uncoordinated word-of-mouth. Mostly mixed to negative reviews have crept in with the question at most to its poor screenplay, flat development of characters, and mixed pacing. Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani seem to have done a good job, but weak storytelling isn’t giving them a great platform for their Bollywood debuts.
With Sky Force ready to rock the box office and with no hope in the sight for Azaad, the Abhishek Kapoor venture is in for a fleeting presence at cinemas. Though there’s much being made about it, Azaad, as it goes without saying, is already off the tangent due to which this one could very well prove a lost opportunity both for the first timers and the director himself.
For those who want to catch Azaad before it fades out, the film is still running in cinemas and tickets can be booked online or at the counter.
