Around 25 years ago, today, the Greek God of Bollywood Hrithik Roshan stepped into the industry as an actor with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000). He played a very distinctive double role and won hearts via his extremely easy buttery smooth dance moves. But hardly had audiences got enough of him as a dancer, he previously just mesmerized them with his lovely collaboration with co-star no doubt, Ameesha Patel.
They were adorable together as Rohit/Raj and Sonia! But one thing most movie-buffs may not know, in the beginning, Kareena Kapoor Khan was originally chosen to star in the film. As the film takes a 25-year turn, let’s revisit, what was the reason for Bebo out, and Ameesha in.
What Ameesha said…
For a long time, there were rumors that she wouldn’t be a part of this movie only because there was an issue between Babita Kapoor and Rakesh Roshan. But Ameesha Patel, in a conversation with Bollywood Bubble many years later contradirected all this, stating that Kareena didn’t leave the project because she wanted to. Ameesha was further quoted as saying, “Actually, she (Kareena) did not shy away from any of this.
From what Rakeshji told me, he asked her to leave the film because they were having differences. But it took quite some time before it went public. .” This comment was never made by the producer. The true root cause of this problem was Babita’s ‘interference’ as he stated in the Interviews. After Kareena walked out, he signed Ameesha within three days of her exit from the project.

In the year 2000, when this film failed at the box office, the same year, Refugee became her debut film alongside Amitabh Bachchan’s son Abhishek Bachchan, being his debut too. He recalls how he felt when Roshan’s character died saying, “I was so upset that my brother died.”
