Khushi Kapoor feels that Social media Encourages Actresses to Question their Self-Worth

Khushi Kapoor talks to HT about her new film, Loveyapa, and how, in a time of social media, she maintains her proud title of being a shy actor. Khushi Kapoor could be termed a newcomer to acting, but her association with the film industry dates back to the moment of her birth.

She belongs to the Boney Kapoor and late Sridevi lineage, and she is the sister of another star kid and actress, Janhvi Kapoor. As she says, she’s finally putting her foot into Bollywood. In an exclusive interview with HT ahead of the release of Loveyapa, Khushi speaks about the film, her learnings in the industry so far, and being a shy actor.

What attracted you to ‘Loveyapa‘ – Asked to Khushi Kapoor

Khushi said ‘I had to laugh; I asked my dad. But I think somewhere deep down I knew. I love Advait (Chandan, director) and I loved Secret Superstar. I had seen the original film [Love Today], and that worked in its favour too. I feel it’s a very different and relevant story for the youth.

I needed to do it. Also, Bani’s character is very different from me, and therefore I actually wanted to do the job. And I would probably say that with The Archies, I played myself; anything would have to be like that. I mean, how do you do that? How do you jump out of your bubble and then go explore different characters and stories?

Now you want to step outside of the box and into unfamiliar territory?

Yes! During The Archies, we were cast because we were so close to our character because we were all new. So Zoya had cast us because she saw our characters in us already. But I think as an actor, you want to be versatile enough to do any role and any character. Bani was very much like that. The first thing Advait had said was, ‘I didn’t know if you would be able to yell on the phone.’ Because I don’t raise my voice in life in general. And I think somewhere down Loveyapa, I found my voice a little bit because I had to scream that much.

Do you Prefer to Stay Quiet rather than Voice your Concerns? Asked to Khushi Kapoor

I am strongly influenced to please those who are around me. Many times, when my stylist brings out the clothes, I will just say, “Let’s try everything.” They have to say that if I don’t like something, I need to tell them. And I would say that I am just scared and I don’t say no to anything. I just say yes to everything so as not to let anyone down.

Khushi Kapoor said “my intuitions and instincts would probably take a back seat if we were to clash, because I feel that they are much more experienced than I am. Thankfully, it hasn’t really happened that I strongly liked or disliked something, only to find them on the opposite side.

It’s tough, I feel. I think my social media is really just a small facet of who I am, and, hence, perhaps the impression they have is very different. I am quite guarded about my life and I’m one not to share everything all the time. If people like you, connect with you and understand you, then that’s a good thing, but I don’t want to create an impression that is not me. So all the social media is all Khushi, but a very filtered version of me.
