On Tuesday night, Saira and Rahman’s lawyer Vandana Shah announced separation through a press release. Later in the night, their three children Khatija, Ameen, and Raheem reacted to the news through Instagram Stories. No other publicity is awaited from Rahman as he personally responded to news of the separation on X (formerly Twitter).
Ameen put up on Stories: “We humbly request one and all to maintain our privacy at this moment. Thank you for your understanding.” Singer Khatija shared her own statement on Instagram Stories. “I would highly appreciate if this issue could be treated with utmost privacy and respect. Thank you for your consideration.” Raheem put up a screenshot of Rahman’s tweet and added, “Keep us in your prayers.

The musical director AR Rahman married Saira Banu in 1995. It was an arranged marriage. On Tuesday evening, they released a joint statement: “After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira and her husband Mr. A R. Rahman have taken the very difficult decision of separating from each other. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that tensions and difficulties have presented an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither feels capable of bridging at this point in time.”
Taking to Twitter a little after midnight in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, Rahman wrote, “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end. Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts. Yet, in this shattering, we seek meaning, though the pieces may not find their place again.”. Taking to X (formerly Twitter) early on Wednesday, the musician shared that “they had hoped to reach the grand thirty”. Calling it a “fragile chapter”, he also said that “in this shattering, we seek meaning”.

Khatija, Amen too seek privacy
Their daughter Khatija Rahman took to her Instagram Stories and wrote, “I would really appreciate it if this matter could be dealt with utmost privacy and respect. Thanks in advance for considering.” The son of AR Rahman and Saira, Ameen also sought “privacy” on his Instagram Stories. “We request everyone to please respect our privacy during these trying times. Thank you for your understanding,” he wrote.
