Farah Khan rejected Shilpa Shirodkar for Being too Heavy to be a part of the song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’

Shilpa, Chaiyya Chaiyya

In the latest episode of Bigg Boss 18, Shilpa Shirodkar reminisced about receiving an offer to star with Shah Rukh Khan in the song from Dil Se.

For all Bollywood love fans, whom it would be difficult to erase from their memories, is this beautiful image of Shahrukh Khan and Malaika Arora dancing on top of a train in the song Farah Khan rejected Shilpa Shirodkar for Being too Heavy to be a part of the song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’. Little did anyone know, though, that the superhot diva was not even the first selection for this legendary number.

A Second Option it be-Shilpa Shirodkar

Shilpa Shirodkar, first approached for the song, declined on grounds of being fat, it seems. Shilpa shared this incident very recently in the show Bigg Boss 18.
It happened when filmmaker Farah Khan took over the hosting duties from the show’s regular host Salman Khan, and she condemned many contestants for their behaviour on the show.

It was when ‘Weekend Ka Vaar’ was handed over filmmaker Farah Khan for a short spell, during which she went on to criticize most contestants over their behaviour while appearing on the show.

You see, this was at a point when Farah Khan took over the hosting duties for Weekend Ka Vaar this particular time-from the ever-hypnotic Salman Khan. This particular time proved to be a very condemnation-heavy one, as it saw her disapproving many contestants for their demeanour in the show.

At one instance, Sihil was seen discussing with another celebrity, Farah. Towards the end of the episode when talking to fellow housemates Chum Darang and Karanveer Mehra, Shilpa confided in them that it was Farah who approached her for the song Chaiyya Chaiyya from the film Dil Se, but she couldn’t fulfill it as she was rejected for being overweight.

What Shilpa Said About Rejection?

“She (Farah) approached me for Chaiyya Chaiyya,” Shilpa said, “after which she asked me to shed a few pounds.”

Farah rejected the actor after a period of 7-10 days. Upon asking Shilpa whether Farah’s rejection was because she had not lost weight, Karan came up with a throwback to her conversation with Farah. “You are too fat for the song,” is what Farah had told Shilpa.

This was what Shilpa disclosed: “It was after my rejection that Malaika Arora was called in the same song, opposite Shah Rukh Khan.” Jokingly, Karanveer asked, “Tu chadti toh train rukh jaati kya? (Would train stopped if you were underneath it?)” Shilpa said that only Farah and Mani Ratnam know the real reason behind her rejection.

What exactly did Shah Rukh say?

At the recent session of ‘Ask SRK’ on Twitter, a fan asked Shah Rukh Khan: how did he feel when that song Chaiyya Chaiyya welcomed PM Modi at the White House in the US?
“Sir Chaiyya Chaiyya chants welcomed Modi ji in the US… What do you want to say about this?” This was the question put forward, to which the actor replied in his tweet: “Wish I was there to dance to it… But they wouldn’t allow a train inside I guess??!!!”

About the Song ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’

Chaiyya Chaiyya is a song from ‘Dil Se,’ a Mani Ratnam production released in 1998. The iconic number saw Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora perform choreography atop a moving train. It was sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi and choreographed by Farah Khan. The same year, she won the Filmfare Award for best choreography for the song.

It was composed by A.R. Rahman, while the words were penned down by Gulzar. “Chaiyya Chaiyya,” according to Malaika, was the song that should never be remade or touched because it was “iconic” according to her statement in an interview in 2020.
