Varun Dhawan explains, Baby John borrows some Inspiration from ‘Theri’, but it is not a direct Remake
The year 2016 saw the release of the much-awaited film, Theri which cast the likes of Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, and Amy Jackson. The film was directed by Atlee.
Varun Dhawan is excited about the release of his upcoming film Theri. Last week, the dynamic trailer of the movie was unveiled by the actor. Baby John is a Bollywood update on the hit 2016 Tamil film, Theri. In an interview with India Today, Varun said that Baby John is not a scene-by-scene remake of the film and can be rather called an ‘adaptation.’
What Varun said:
Varun said during the conversation: “When Atlee came with this film, there was a reason for it. I have said to him that we had to change a lot of the geography of the film-in fact, it was more of an adaptation and not really a proper remake, and I think that’s what’s done.”
‘We aren’t Running Away”
Varun said, “As you can see, many frames and many story angles are different. So, if someone comes in expecting a book-by-book adaptation directly, they will be disappointed because that’s not what it is-the film is an adaptation. We’re not running away from that, but it’s more of an adaptation”.
Baby John is an action drama directed by Kalees and also marks the Hindi production debut of director Atlee of Jawan fame. Varun plays a police officer and a single father living not in fear of meeting an opponent face to face. One of his amazing dialogues, “Mere jaise bohat aaye hoge, main pehali baar aaya hu” meaning “Many like me might have come before, but I have come here for the first time”, sets the tone for his heroic journey.
The film that is due for release in cinemas this Christmas will also feature Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh, and Jackie Shroff in important roles with a special appearance by Salman Khan.
Varun Dhawan on his Scary Experience
Varun Dhawan shares a very scary incident that happened with a woman who was catfished to believe that she would elope with him. According to Varun, the woman, referred to as “the wife of a very powerful man,” stalked him and broke into his home, after which he reported the incident to the police.
Varun’s story of a woman coming into the house incidentally narrates an incident on a podcast with Ranveer Allahabadia: “It happened to be the wife of a very powerful man, I wouldn’t say what position…but a very powerful man and she was being catfished. Somebody was talking to her using my name. She was knowledgeable about the entire house, and she thought I would leave my family. Very scary,” Varun said. “I had to inform the police, ‘female constables came in and handled it’,” he said.
Upcoming work of Varun Dhawan
The last time Varun appeared in a leading role was in the 2023 Prime Video film Bawaal by Nitesh Tiwari. He has recently been seen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Munjya, and Stree 2 in special appearances. Now, Kalees Baby John is ready to hit the screens for the actor. The movie produced by Atlee is a loose adaptation of his Tamil blockbuster Theri. Other prominent roles in Baby John include Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi. The film is expected to release in theatres on Christmas, December 25.
