The most awaited IPL 2025 mega auction witnessed fireworks right from Day 1, when the league saw two record-breaking bids which went to make its history. Cricket fans saw, on day one, two records being broken, which are one of the most powerful performances in the league’s history. The highlight of the day was Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, the two Indian cricket stars whose bidding wars went to record heights.

Shreyas Iyer Sets The Fireworks In The Auction

An event eagerly awaited, going under the hammer in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, had 195 capped Indian players. But it was Shreyas Iyer who most often formed the center of all the discussions. He led Kolkata Knight Riders to a much-needed championship title last season but surprisingly got released by the franchise. He must be one of the biggest games in an auction.

Shreyas, based at a price of ₹2 crores, was caught up in the centre of a hot bidding war between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings. The excitement reached its peak as Punjab Kings bagged him for a whopping amount of ₹26.75 crores, after breaking up erstwhile record of Mitchell Starc that had been at ₹24.75 crores. This tremendous amount of money made Shreyas the first player in the history of IPL to break the ₹25-crore mark.

Rishabh Pant Steals the Show

Though Shreyas’s ₹26.75 crores seemed untouchable, it was a short-lived celebration. Enter Rishabh Pant-the charismatic wicketkeeper-batsman who has constantly pleased audiences with his spectacular performances. Lucknow Super Giants went viral by snatching the bid of Pant at an unbelievable ₹27 crores dethroning Shreyas Iyer to become the costliest IPL player ever.

A record-breaking day IPL 2025 auction showed a few new precedents when two players crossed ₹25 crores in the very first day. Jaw-dropping figures alone say why franchises value their proven performers, if more so Indian players who will long on dominate the league.

The event also throws light on how IPL auctions have changed over the years where franchises now splurge to get the players who bring leadership qualities, consistency, and charisma to the team.

Why Rishabh Pant’s Bid Matters

The record-breaking bid of Rishabh Pant is a testament to his unparalleled skills and ability to perform under pressure. The only Indian wicketkeeper-batsman after recovering from an injury that kept him away from the game for quite some time, Pant’s return to cricketing has been truly outstanding.

He is a gem with his multi-dimensional skills and match-winning abilities, and Lucknow Super Giants have surely done the right move to enrich the bench strength.

Shreyas Iyer Market Value

But Shreyas Iyer’s bid is no less important. Leadership quality along with consistent performances as a top-order batsman makes him a great deal in any team. Aggressive nature of Punjab Kings’ bid reflects an approach to build a strong squad around a proven match-winner.

What’s Next?

Just when the mega auction for IPL 2025 has just begun, fans can expect much more shocks as teams finalise their rosters. Day one brought forth record-breaking bids to the table, and now the stakes have become even bigger; this promises to be a scintillating season.

As we wait for the next exciting news, one thing is for sure-the IPL continues to be a platform where cricket meets showbiz, and the value of every player is celebrated as never before.
